Unexplained death?

I'm concerned because my Eastern Ribbon snake died suddenly, no symthons aside from been a bit duller or not feeding on anything but live but he was always a bit of a fussy eater.
My concern is for my Plains Garter who shared his tank,

sorry to hear about yor loss....

Rhea brings up a good point it could have been the mites or that could have some part in its death anyway.....

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I thought he said the one with the mites was a Western ribbon snake.

Re: Unexplained death?

I lost my first ribbon a couple of years ago just like that, he was showing all the signs of shedding, but instead he died. He was really big, and ribbons only live about 5 years, so I just guessed it was old age that killed him.

Re: Unexplained death?

Hi Michelle,

As you know, I've been away for a while, so I hope I don't suggest anything that you're already aware of or that you've already taken care of, but if two snakes share a cage and one has mites... so does the other. The snake that died was probably just less resillient than the survivor, but if you haven't already given the survivor two anti-mite treatments, you should. Let us know if you need any more advise on getting rid of the mites (if they're not already gone). One sign might be that the snake lays in the water dish for hours on end with only its head exposed.

Rick
