FLAGYL (metronidizole doseage)
Does anyone know the usual doseage of Flagyl for garters? My herp vet is gone for two weeks, and I can't remember the dose...

Re: FLAGYL (metronidizole doseage)
I wanted to follow up on this question since Understanding reptile parasites recommends giving 25-50 mg/kg at least twice (once every 3-4 days), but severe cases of amebiasis should be treated with 25-50 mg/kg daily for 5-10 days. The author acknowledges that doseages up to 125 mg/kg have been recommended, but these doseages have been known to cause liver damage in mammals. His own efficacy studies have shown the lower doseages to be just as effective as the higher ones and recommends not taking the chance with higher treatments. This is a great little book to have on hand.
