i may have already posted this but i can't seem to find it now....

my boyfriend's garter snake gave birth to 12 baby snakes on Aug 15th. Since then Mom has seemed exhausted and her mouth is slightly ajar. This morning, I noticed that her eyes now seem a bit discolored & bulgy and now the other adult snake in the cage is also holding his mouth open. There appears to be pink tissue emerging from their mouths. Could this have something to do with the recent birth? The babies appear to be healthy and happy as far as I can tell.

Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Vets ASAP ... that doesn't sound right. Lungworm, RI, etc ...

Agreed, vet visit is in order... the sooner the better. google mouth rot/stomatitis and respiratory infection in snakes to see if anything sounds close.

The mouth agape sounds like a respiratory infection and the swollen pink tissue sounds like secondary stomatitis (mouth rot) is setting in. And now that the other one is doing it, that sounds like it is contagious... I would see a vet ASAP, whatever is going on, that is not good!
