thx 4 the warm welcome. well this is my first snake its a T. sirtalis i think thats the fancy name for red sided garter its the only local snake up this far in Alberta the 2 other garters are farther south. i found it at a river when some people and i were having a get together there were other people there and they had a dog and the snake wiggled across my path in front of me and the dog was running up right behind me so i picked it up and put it in my truck. i got musked for my trouble but i just went down to the river and washed it off my forearm i got some pics but it was right after i found it so the snake is pretty skinny i have yet to take more recent photos it has gotten a bit more plump since then. i gave it the once over when i got home other then being skinny no mites or ticks or wierd bumps i think its a female . i keep a few other pets my 11yo cat 2 bearded dragons a small colony of hermit crabs and now a snake. when i first found it i put it a plastic tub (my hermit crabs isolation tub) but now its in a glass tank until summer rolls around again so i can hit up a yard sale and find something to convert to a top and bottom thing for my snake and crabs
