Hello there! I have just now made this account in hopes of figuring out what is going on with my backyard snakes. I found a snake that wasn't moving properly, he was slithering around on his belly and his back while his mouth was opening and closing. His head was tilting to one side and later that day he died. About a week later I found another snake doing the same exact thing, its as if they are having neurological problems. The snakes appear to be in perfect physical condition with no visible wounds. I am devastated to have witnessed this and I want to get to the bottom of it asap. Please help!

Initially, it sounds like Thiamine deficiency to me. Without knowing what they are eating or having a necropsy done it is really just guessing. Having a necropsy done may not tell what it was but more of what it wasn't. Very strange.

These are wild snakes in your back yard? Sounds like pesticides or lawn fertilizer might be the cause.
