My goodness!! Those are some beautiful animals :)

The Monitor is neato-- Are they related to crocodiles?? Wow, cool! And definitely an attractive garter snakie, resembles a maritime ribbon snake from around my area, only it's got that nice red stripe, where our ribbons usually have 3 yellow stripes. I agree - what kind is it? (I'll see your reply to Lulu)..

Wow I like them all, but I really like the coloring on the Pine Snakie too, I have never seen one of those!
Very nice Charlet :) -- I must go for supper now (yes I'm still here Lulu it takes VERY long for me to download pictures on dial-up :( ) but I'm going NOW for supper, I'm HuNgRy!!!! Bye all! Back after.

Hi Natalie, and welcome to the forum.:) Great collection, but of coarse I like the Garter best.

Your garter looks like a Thamnophis atratus zaxanthus- Diablo Ranger Garter

welcome to this forum, Natalie
nice to meet you and your wonderful animals
the garter I think is a Thamnophis radix - plains garter

I imagine its possible but there more closer related to the kamodo dragons...

i thought the GARTER might be a radix but the body looks plain black and with an orange stripe instead of yellow stripe with checkereds on them?

wow that monitor looks cool.

sasha- have a nice supper?

I did finally, thanks :) I had pork chops and garden veggies (er, well, aren't they all 'garden veggies?) lol, though I let my guard down momentarily and they kinda overcooked themselves :O oh well, was very yummy! Now I must go and clean up a little in my garter snakies' house, she needs some new water and a minor floor cleaning :) alors, je vous regarder un peut plus-tarde.

some radix are dark coloured with not much pattern
their dorsal stripe is generally an orangish yellow and they have lateral stripes of a paler yellow
given Natalie's location, that's what I would think this is

Hiya Natalie, welcome to the forum. Interesting collection you've got there. Have to agree that the garter looks like a T.radix, but with out a scale count or at least a good side shot I wouldn't say 100%. I'm also thinking that the monitor is actually a Water monitor (Varanus salvator) rather then a Nile (Varanus niloticus)....the nostril is rather low on the snout for a Nile.....it's usually right between the eye and the end of the nose. Your's is down further on the snout. Anways, welcome!:D

Natalie,
your pets are unique and beautiful, but what I really want to know is...

How the HECK do you find time to be a mom AND take care of all these guys???? Are you on speed or something??!!!:D (just kidding!) let me know the secret, please!
I have 2 kids, a husband (have to count him!) 1 snake 1 toad and a bunch of fish, and they keep me hoppin', so I give you credit, you must have lots of energy!!
Best of luck with the new arrivals, I wouldn't know where to begin with taking care of alligators!

Anji:)

So what you're saying is you DO go crazy keeping up!!!! Wow, what a neat little corner!! I LOVE the idea of using the plastic storage drawers- never would have thought of that. Is that where all the snakes are? So convenient!

Charlet_2007
10-06-2007, 09:04 AM
no thats where our breeding rats are.. i thought of it one day whats the difference between the rat racks and them basically nothing... I've had them for about a month in them and they havent even once got out and its really cheap too.. :D

10-06-2007, 10:06 AM
You breed rats too??? Girl, do you ever get any sleep?????
I had pet rats once, they're lots of fun! Although I guess the baby ones make good food for all your other creatures!

welcome to the forum.... nice garter. not a radix, side stripe not high enough, not zaxanthus either, not in missouri. does look like the texas garter, t sirtalis annectens, however is a little out of the range. nice looking snake period tho!! :D
