In the year 2005 we spent our holidays in the Czech Republic.
Ofcourse I went looking for reptiles and so.

In 2006 we found next to the animals I mentioned above also some Adders (Vipera berus), but were not abled to make some decent pictures of them.

This year we again go to the Czech Republic. But this time to somewhere in the north/northeast.
In 2005 and 2006 we were in the southwest part of the country.
We hope to find some beautiful animals.

God those grass snakes are awesome. They kind of look like a king cobra I saw (in pics) and Bairds ratsnake (I think) with the metal look.

Yep, I have to agree. That male grass snake is very cool looking, and I didn't realize the Czech Republic was so pretty, either. Great pictures, Fons (like always).

Nice to see a familiar species. :)

Thamnophis, have you ever had a grass snake behave aggressively? I've never come across an aggressive grass snake.
I'd get a grass snake couple if it didn't require a permit to keep domestic species (don't know if it applies to subspecies as well), it's absolutely the most beautiful Natrix species and remarkably similar to garters.

@ Stefan-A... No, Grass Snakes normally don't bite. They musk and try to get away.

@ Cazador... The Czech republic is a very pretty country with friendly people and low costs. And they invented the beer!!!

In the Netherlands it is forbidden to keep Grass Snakes. It doesn't matter what subspecies it is. All subspecies are forbidden.
In the Netherlands it is impossible to get a permit as a privat person to keep them.
In the Reptilezoo where I work we have a permit for keeping them when they are brought to us by the governement. When it is unknown where they come from, they stay in our zoo.

Very nice Fons! Thanx a lot. Now we already have two subspecies of Natrix found in nature, hopefully we found some other in this year.

I also never saw a Natrix that trying to bite. Rather they're playing dead or just make the same like small Thamnophis.
