Hi Ya'all!!
Tonight I decided to brave the 3 and clean the snaky house which I have to tell you smelled like a swamp! I also told the snakes that! While transfering Stewie to a rubbermaid tub, she swam through a plate of ketchup (eeww) (don't ask) and bit me on my right hand thumb. Nice chew marks from Stewie tonight. Midnight, our newest addition, didn't chew until putting her back. Then she got caught on my plastic glove. Kinda had to pry her off of that...
The only one to not bite and musk was my juvenile dekayi, who calmed down after holding for a few minutes. Such a cute snake! Like Stephi says, "I wish snakies had arms so I could hug them!" I love them so much and they are soooo cuuute!:D

Let me see if I got this straight. You first invaded their space and insulted them. Then you dipped one of them in ketchup. Which all Garters know is a condiment for people food, used just before eating what ever is dipped in it. They tried to defend themselves and you tried to smother one of them with plastic. And your upset with them. That's rich!
This may be a time to call the ASPCT(American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Thamnophis):D
Personally, I think you owe them an apology and maybe some extra food and a bigger water dish and more plants and hides and a few more friends and a special built outdoor enclosure with all the extras. No expense spared.
But that's just my oppinion:D

Steve, you're right. I didn't think of the whole condiment, dipping people food aspect. I did try & make nice by offering a nice warm bath before going back to the house. Maybe they mistook that as trying to drown them:eek: I'm such a bad snake mommy!!!
I did clean up the whole house, scrubbed and put my nicest pothos plant in there. It's a perfect tree dwelling place, which they all seem to like to do under the red heat lamp. The "lagoon" is directly beneath the pothos, offering up a rather nice dipping spot in the shade. They have a rather large snaky hut, which I slightly repositioned at an angle. I left them with 2 pinkies but they seemed more interested in checking out what I had moved around and replaced. Hopefully they will find the home comfy and forgive me the "invasion":D But the swamp comment stays.

It sounds like you're willing to admit fault but only to a point. If you are ever going to move forward. You need put this situation behind you and regain the trust and respect of your snakes. I'm pleased to see that you have taken steps to make amends but I'm also disturbed that you won't take that final step, which is the most important part and will afford you the closure YOU need.
You need to crawl inside their skin for a moment and understand the embarrassment they feel. A swamp! Poor little snakes.:D

I'll give a little. The swamp smell (which took over an hour of scrubbing, etc to get rid of) is my fault to the point that I didn't get to it sooner. However, my little friends like to hide their fish. I think they've eaten, they just stow'em somewhere:eek:
I re-designed the home, so we shouldn't have the odor problem again. Though "somebody" did decide to use their nice, fresh, cool lagoon as a potty!
I think pinkies are all gone or properly hidden, I'll have to poke around when they are no longer mad at me:)
I am working on attaining a duplex, cause this snaky house is too small. :D
