I'm going to the forest preserve tomorrow and it's supposed to be in the low 70's so maybe I'll have some luck.

Aww, crap. It's going to be raining all day tomorrow. I read the forecast for SUNDAY. And I'm going to be at my aunts all day on Sunday (I think) Hopefully there'll be some in the fields then, I hope.

does any one know if the blue one is a florida blue eastern or a blurstripe? i keep changing my mind about what it is and don't know for sure. It was found in southern florida if that matters.

If you found it in southern Fla., then it'd have to be a Fla. Blue Eastern (T.s.sirtalis), the Blue Stripes (T.s.similis) are found in the panhandle area.

I'm so jealous of our US members, who can just go out and see these things in the field..... All I can find here is woodlice (pill bugs) and dog sh+t!!

Still no gareters for me but, a productive day none the less.
2 Black Rat Snakes (Elaphe obsoleta), 7 Eastern Worm Snakes (Carphophis amoenus and 1 Red-belly Water Snake (Nerodia erythogaster). Also found 3 different species of salamanders,2 spaecies of lizards and 2 species of frogs.

Sid,
That's a heck of a day! Congrats.

Don,
Is that a wandering garter?

Yes, it's a male wandering...they come out a few days before the females do, then just "wander" around looking for the girls..lol!!! :D It's fun to sit at the den and watch the snakes crawl around, they ignore me and just keep on looking for the girls. I don't know if I will be able to get any pics of the girls...will try to swing by the den on my lunch, but only have 2 days to do it...will be leaving for vacation for a week and a half and they will probably be gone from the den site by then.

I don't think I've ever seen vagrans available in the UK. I now hope someone will contradict me on that! If you do, I'm buying!
