Hey guys! I'm back.

Now, obviously, we've got some photographers here. (Though that seems to be an understatement, lol) but how about artists? Paints, pencils, pen, etc.?

I know of at least one, -nudges James- but are there any others hiding out there? :D

I'll post some art if someone confesses. :p

Well, I don't want to brag, but I consider myself somewhat of a modern-day van Gogh. It's true. Sometimes the people I draw end up with one eye, sometimes two or three... very often they have lopsided arms and legs. Yet, nobody seems to recognize the suffering artist within. We true visionaries are never appreciated in our day .

P.S. Really impressive art above!

Mikhaila,

You'll definitely develop some real artistic talent! Your pictures are very good now, but the amount of detail that you include in each one shows that you'll become very good. I also noticed that you're very creative. You haven't just memorized how to draw one style of nose, eyes, mouth, head shape, etc. You've already learned to adapt to suit the situation. Awesome, my friend!

I lost over 125 pages of edited fiction when my computer crashed two years ago... Four months of work wasted, and some of my better stuff lost forever. Needless to say, I now harbor a deep hatred for computers.. Don't trust 'em.. :p

KITKAT

The Devil challenged God with a contest between him and Jesus, saying that he would win.

God set up two PC's and told the Devil when the contest would start... each contestant would write programming for a period of three days, and when God yelled "STOP!" the contest would be over, and a comparison of the programs that were written by Jesus and the Devil would be evaluated...

The contest began the next morning. Jesus and the Devil both sat at their keyboards, typing code as fast as they could.

The day wore on... and on... and the next two days as well.

After 71 hours, 31 minutes, and 50 seconds, the power suddenly went out! Both computer screens turned black!

God quickly restored the power and the devil began ranting in frustration as he began furiously typing again at his monitor. Jesus, on the other hand, typed a few more characters, got Himself a coffee, sipped it thoughtfully, then typed for another 3 minutes. He finally sat back and looked relaxed.

The remaining time passed quickly. God shouted "STOP!"

The devil typed a few more characters, looking furtively over his shoulder to see if God noticed.

God said, "Let's see what you have written."

The Devil was asked to go first. He started his program, and an image of a flame started to burn on the screen, but then the screen went blank.

Next it was Jesus' turn. He started his program, and the screen lit up with images of babies being born, children playing, couples kissing and then walking together to the altar, people praying together in church, angels fighting demons, the mountains in springtime, sunrise over the Serengeti... and on and on, with all kinds of beautiful images and music!

As the program came to a close, the Devil shouted in anger, "He must have cheated! There is NO WAY that he wrote all that after the power went out!"

God smiled patiently and said, "Oh no, He didn't cheat! Didn't you remember...

...

...

...

Jesus saves!"

:D  ;) :D

Hope that did not offend anyone, I just thought it was a totally funny joke, and all to appropriate to the discussion! Sorry about your lost fiction, Hannah... been there done that and hated it!

Stefan-A
03-31-2007, 02:17 PM

I won't go into extreme detail, but this is one of my fantasy serpentine characters. The small spiderlike contraption is Project 84-SR (usually shortened to 84 in casual reference), the snake's custom built multipurpose utility unit, (basically a "Swiss Army Knife" type machine) and a companion per say.

Here are some various concept pictures from a novel I'm thinking about writing sometime in the future.

Naja Haje -- Egyptian Cobra -- Queen of Cairo set in time after humans have left earth and snakes are their successors. Various Cleopatra cues

Python molurus bivittatus -- Burmese Python -- Exceptionally large Pure White Burmese, ruler of a secluded colony of snakes in a rainforest in Thailand. The smaller snake is a Ball Python, originally going to be the story's protagonist. I decided against it recently, but I still don't know if I'm even going to continue with the novel idea.

I'd have to disagree with you there, drawing the same sort of things over and over does massively improve your work. Besides, absolutely everyone can draw! You just have to discover your particular style :) May not be life, could be abstract/cubism if you can master the ruler ;)

My boyfriend is like that... Kind of. He wants so badly to draw like a professional, but he wont bother even trying to put any time into it. When he applies himself, he does an amazing job, even better than I can do, but he doesn't believe it because I'm stronger in some areas than he is. He has all these ideas in his head, but he cant get them onto the paper or pc. (whichever he tries to draw on) He has a lot of potential.... If only he'd try the repetition ;)

I agree everyone can draw, there are many techniques that can be learned like chiaroscuro and linear 3 point perspective, and you don't have to be "gifted" to enjoy creating art, some of the greatest artist's aren't/weren't the most talented, but creative and expressive of something people can relate to. I encourage anyone to experiment with art and take it to any level or format, creative outlet is good for the soul.
FYI a lot of you may not realize this but my first college degree was a Bachelor of Fine Arts with my emphisis in drawing, painting, and printmaking. I worked at an art gallery for several years and sold my paintings there and did work in the frame shop. This is a painting that we have currently hanging in our living room that I painted back in the early 1990's while I was working at an art gallery, I sold many paintings their but I did keep this one, as I liked how the imaginary hybrid hummingbirds turned out, I believe it was 1992 but the frame is covering the date down by my signiture and my memory isn't that great.

Wow, everyone's art is really good looking :D

Jeff, I really like how the picture gets less detailed as it gets away from the hummingbirds and goes into a lot of heavy texture and gets an almost abstract look near the corners. I know how difficult it can be to make an entire canvas 'pop' like that when the main subject is so small. Really great painting!

Looking through my pics to upload to another thread I found this! Figured I might as well put it up.. :p Sorry for the blurriness and part of my reflection in it, but it's behind glass... It's my dog, Bear.

The writing in the corner is part of a poem called "To John, My Collie" and it says "Perhaps they will not want me there, perhaps not want you otherwhere, and so once more our way we'll wend, to outer darkness friend and friend, nor want for any light we two, for you have me and I have you".

I haven't drew anything since 2009 when I lost everything I owned except for the manure covered work clothes I was wearing... lol Guess when my trailer burnt down, April Fools day 2009 lol what a joke eh? The funny thing about that is me n my co-worker were joking about our neighbor whom we thought was burning something when there was a fire ban on... was funny till my bosses daughter came running in with a 5gal bucket screaming "Your trailers on fire, YOUR TRAILERS ON FIRE" (I was living in a 15ft holiday trailer my boss had got written off for insurance after his oldest daughter rolled it.. The electric plug ins were all screwed up n half of them didn't work... but it was safe to live in. furnace cut out all the time during -50 weather. But it was good (So said my boss) I had all my artwork in there...)
The kicker is... it was an electrical short inside the walls that started the fire! Go figure eh. Oh and my boss hands me 1000bucks says 'oh sorry, good luck' but is more concerned about paying for the fire department to come out n save his precious dairy farm.

Lost the inspiration to draw or paint after that... But I do have a sketch book around here somewhere... I should use it..

That's kinda what I was thinking too. I want full color with maybe some nature background. A calm face and the tongue out. Just the curious things they are. Not like some tattoos that portray snakes aggressively. My niece is a fantastic artist so I asked her if she wanted to help. I haven't heard back from her, but she is a teenager, so she has better things to do I'm sure. :)

Light of Dae

I like the idea of a natural background... Maybe behind the symbol put a tree then have the snake coming out from behind it Or to make it 'less tramp stampy' you should add to it only on one side, don't center it.

I am a self-employed artist. My favorite subjects are, of course, herps, but they are in low demand! Especially since I do a lot of adult oriented work that I will skip sharing here (it pays the bills and feeds the snakes.) Whenever I am given the opportunity, though, I jump on any work that is reptile related! I do mostly energetic, colorful pieces with distinct shapes, but I've done more laid back work as well.

Also, in case anyone should be interested, I do take trades. Art for snakes, or partial credit toward snakes. I value my labor at $10 an hour (below industry standard) and will gladly give estimates.

Because of image limitations I'll have to categorize by reply it seems!
