I think that's only an issue if you're trying to make money using the image

I'm a pro photographer and artist I can clear this up fast;

1.A photographer owns the rights to a photo for all purposes for longer than we will be alive, whether it is copyrighted or not.

2.There is no fair use except for commentary and educational purposes.

3. If you take that to Kinko's/Walmart and ask them to print it, if it is a photo odds are they won't unless you can produce proof you own it. If it is a painting, it might need to be copyrighted to matter, you may have more luck with that, though legality isn't much different.

4. If the artist has been dead for 70 years, it is fair game.

5. If you can make it at home yourself, I can't think of a single person out there who matters who could object. This stuff isn't prosecuted unless you are making money.

Legal use aside....

In what format is the pic? What is the resolution? In order to print the image to the size you need it will have to be a HUGE file.

Check out online printing options, I've had backgrounds made before, and they're relatively cheap.

a good open source is sxc.hu Look for their highest resolution files.

...And when I sent my digital file to be printed, I was not asked if I had permission to print it. I have also never been asked if I had permission to print any pics that I have had professionally developed. IMO, while there may be some exceptions, I really don't think the people taking orders and processing them really care that much.

Never used it, never even tried it, but I've heard good things about it:

Ratio. We need to know ratio. whatever measuring unit that you have to use, to get it to come out to an even unit both directions. Centimeters, inches, etc. size X size. post that!

I have to tell you though, that's a nearly square picture. After knowing the aspect of your target, there is something creative that might be done to make it a wider landscape, besides stretching or squashing.

I don't know of too many aquatic animals that go skiing or vacationing in the mountains in winter though. Hmm...

I know this program) Old good stuff. Too old I think and there are many programs, which produces posters with better quality now. For example, I use this poster maker (http://www.ronyasoft.com/products/proposter/) and I find it more powerful, than Rasterbator.
