    Checkered garter breeding

Hi all.. I hope to breed my first pair of garters this year.. got a beautiful albino female for my little albino male last fall.. They are currently still being cooled.. BUT have questions about the breeding part..

**How long do I cool?? Do Checkereds breed at a certain time??

**Do I put her with him, or him with her?? I also have 2 females that are het for albino.. can I just put him in with everyone?? Or will he run out of steam?? He is so much smaller than everyone else..not sure he can handle all 3..

    Any advice??

    Billie

    Billie,
If your male is anything like my males, 3 won't be a problem. In the wild the males come out first and wait for the females. So, him with her would work. Not sure about the chill time. Someone else will have to help you with that. I'm guessing at least 6-8 weeks. Depend on what temperate zone they came from. Longer time North and shorter time South. I'll be quiet now.

I brumated my marcianus for two months. I warmed the males first, then one week later warmed the female and put her in with them. They were mating within twenty minutes!
Checkereds are known for breeding at any time of the year in captivity, even more than once a year isn't rare.
