if i understand correctly. why does any snake owner deal with or try to produce morphs? everyone on this forum id assume atleast to an extent appreciates the natural specimens of garters, and a few do a great deal of preserving them in the wild that way. but when it comes to pets and wanting a gorgeous show piece etc etc what does it matter? i personally only have naturally occuring easterns. but my favorites happen to be morphs. i hope i didnt go off on a tangent and not understand your point lol

I guess I came off wrong. I think morphs are cool. I personally only keep "regular" garters, I could maybe see myslef getting an albino. I dont know, I dont know much about morphs. I was just wondering (I'm also a little old school) if all this breeding for certain colors can do anything adverse to the snake?

I am not a breeder so I dont know.

Sorry for quoting a greatful dead song. It just seemed to fit in my far out mind

I think some of the most experienced Thamnophis keepers will agree their "newbies" too. There is always more to learn

I think that depends on each pair that is being bred, their genetic history and relationship genetically to each other. Certain factors can certainly cause problems for the offspring and future offspring. Hopefully, Jeff B. will see this thread and give us his opinion as he is more versed in genetics and the breeding of morphs.
