Everything on the list was found in the wild here in South Carolina. Only 3 Garters were kept. Quite a few were handled for photographing and then released. A very few were kept short term to use at a presentation for grammer school students. Those were then taken back where they came from and released.

Only kept short term. I was tempted to keep a couple. They were released to have the room to expand the garter collection.

Here's another neat small snake, Redbelly. They are hard to keep, only photographed, then turned loose.

    I had that same thought.

But I never believed in warning kids not to try things at home. How else are they supposed to learn not to do things that can hurt them?

    I agree
I'd rather have kids try things at home than some other places I could think of.

My trips didn't produce much, but I found:

    2-Eastern Garter (T. s. sirtalis)
    1-Toad (Bufo a. americanus)
    1-Northern Ringneck(Diadophis punctatus edwarsii)
