That's a tough one as they are illegal to be collected in the wild and can't be moved across State lines for fear of Federal charges.

About chris-uk
- Biography:
- I kind of had an inkling for snakes for a long time, but it was only in 2011 when the wife begged me to buy her an albino garter that I caught the bug, and now we have 17 garters and 7 different species (radix, infernalis, tetrataenia, marcianus, cuitzeoensis, cyrtopsis, parietalis).
It's the biologist in me that keeps me interested, having studied medical science (with medical genetics) I'm fighting the urge to buy a microscope/DNA sequencer to get a closer look.
I also keep fish. Currently a tank with cardinal tetras, ottos, Lake Kutubu rainbows, bulldog plecs, neon tetras, corys, and a couple of killifish.
I am really called Chris. The wife is Char and she hangs out on the forum as well, we have a baby called Joseph born Sept 2012.
My favourite film is Gladiator. I read Terry Pratchett, amongst an eclectic mix of other literature Pratchett's Discworld novels have been constant since my early teens. We collect books, including lots of 1st editions, and a proof of Pratchett's "The Truth".
I have never kept caniverous plants, and I don't really have my bank account details in my profile.

Peterra liked post by chris-uk On thread : Accidental Breeding -- Help!
I'm sure you could pop out both hemipenes and cut both of them off. However, ethnically I'd have more problems with this than I would with accidental intergrades. In the same way that I find removing...

Any sign of her yet? I had a checkered get out of a tiny hole in her viv, and she turned up 3 days later (our cat actually spotted her, I heard him start "playing" with something on the floor as I...

When Wayne said that the local radix all had directions to find Steve, I I had visions of a garter programming their satnav with their tails. :)

Neither does mine. Not about the cat which has been here for 6 years, the snakes or the fish.

Ours are happy in the bath. The Cuitzeos are big enough that the bath is the only option (75cm and 95cm), the checkereds are around 40cm. I make sure there's a RUB lids in there as a resting...

My assassin snails are quite interesting when they are cleaning up the "problem" snails in my aquarium. :)

It must be a case of: "I'm sorry. I'm the predator, your the prey. Let's get this relationship back on track."

Peterra liked post by chris-uk On thread : Cannibal T.radix
Put her in with Enforcer et al, with the message "eat these girls if you dare".
But seriously, it's interesting to read about a confirmed case of cannibalism, especially in a radix.

Varanus, it mostly comes down to personality. To be honest I was complacent with this new girl, my others are all fine and I can read them pretty well. This girl probably hasn't been handled often in...

So we're about 46h post-bite and the there's still enough swelling that I can't quite bend my finger all the way but it's only about 2mm short of fully flexed.
The bruising has become darker so it's...

Esme has settled down already. I just made a point of taking her out. She's as sweet as pie when she's not in full-on feeding mode. I will be more cautious feeding her in the future.
After about...

What makes you think a bacterial infection is more likely than venom? I've been clear that the swelling came up within 10 minutes, if you know something about the microbiology of e-Coli or salmonella...
