    Poll: 36” vs 48” tank

I’d like to keep two female garters (eastern and plains) in one tank. I’m torn between a 36X18X16 40 breeder vs a 48X12X16 40 long.

Do you think one is better than the other? Why?

    Thanks!

I have always had good luck keeping adult groups in 40 breeders. No scientific reasoning, just what works for me.

I always gave the most room possible.

Thank you for the input! I was wondering if people felt there was much difference in benefit between one tank’s extra length vs the other tank’s extra width based on how snakes use space. I’m still pretty new to it all.

I like the extra width so I have room to put a large (3-4 gallon) water area with filtration and a basking perch on the opposite end. They really seem to enjoy it.

I don't really think that there is a right and wrong answer between the two. Either one can give plenty of room if set up properly.

Since both those tanks have the same floor area it really comes down to how you want to set the tank up.

How deep and wide do you make the water feature? Thanks.
