    Envenomation of rodents

I've never been into feeding live 'non-fish' animals to my snakes (my dad tried when I was a kid once and we ended up gaining a pet mouse for a week then returning it), but I'm so curious about the potency of garter venom and how its possible effects vary with prey size, species, garter species, etc. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with subdual times of rodents, fish, etc.? Can anyone point me in the right direction to find some data on this? I'd love to do the experiments myself, but I refuse to take prey from the wild to feed to a captive bred animal. Health risks aside, it's just not right. Worms don't count

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.
