Re: Eating Problem: My Garter's off her feed

Back from the vet, and the exam was inconclusive. the Vet said it felt almost like gas. an xray won't show anything unless there is a mass.
so the options were x-ray, Xray with barium, and blood work, or both.

i opted for bringing her home and trying to feed her first. i got some smaller mice to try, and some reptile vitamins the vet reccomended.

i dusted one, and she was having none of it.

i gave her one without the vitamin, but she didnt seem interested either. Perhaps its because shes been eating rat fuzzies that she's off mice?

i did notice she started contoring herself around where she's buleged out and yawning, like she was tring to bring something back up. Given its been a month i doubt she would be regurgitating anything but it does suggest shes blocked up somehow.

so i guess another vet visit.

this "free" snake is starting to cost money lol

    She didn't make it sadly.

I'm going to see what a basic necropsy would cost, At the end, teh bulge got very swollen and i started to think they may have had some internal trauma and had been bleeding internally. From what, i have no idea. I don't want to spend on blood work, but im hoping the vet can tell me if it was an infection or something else.

After my experience with her, i definitely would like another. I am looking for information to find specific areas closest to me that i can find another radix, because the colouring is so striking.

thanks for the kind words. I never intended to keep reptiles in my but my experience with this one has got me researching areas closest to me to find garters, since there aren't any breeders around i can find.
