But then im not against responsible and scientifically managed hunting or harvesting of any animal. Id just like to see it well thought out and in the best long term interest of the animals and habitat.
Sustainability is a hard grail to chase, but a worthwhile one, I think.
It was always funny to me that you could import a live snake (with all of the possible ecological impacts), but not the skin of a dead one. Or when your pet snake dies, you can't turn it into a belt.

I bet if we allowed people in Florida to turn the invasive pythons into boots they'd be able to remove a lot more than by holding a "whacking day" style competition.

    Confuses me too.
First time I heard about rattlesnake events I thought it could be a good thing- then I found out none of the proceeds go into maintaining habitat or studying population levels in order to maintain a healthy population level or prevent overharvesting.
    Feh. Where's the balance point.

That's because it leaves a wide open door for people to easily circumvent the purpose of the ban.

And a fat kickback / campaign contributions from developers to follow I'm sure. That's something that's very wrong with our system. It isn't run by politicians or the people at all. It's run by the corporations that provide the fattest checks.

Just heard a bit on the radio about a woman who set a snake near her house on fire with gasoline. Fire coated snake flees to brush pile. Brush pile catches fire. House catches fire. Entire house burns.
    Revenge. Ow.

    It's a shame she wasn't in it.
