Safe foods for Sirtalis-sirtalis or Radix
This is my first post and I'm entirely new to snakes.
I plan to get either Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis or Thamnophis radix.
I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I make any decisions.
First up is diet and sourcing foods.
Please tell me which of the following are safe to feed.
Fish:
- Basa-basa filets
- Great Lake smelts whole
- Salmon ground with bone
- Sardines whole
- Small mackeral
- Trout ground with bone
- San Fransisco Silversides
Bird items
- Chicken hearts
- Whole chicken ground (bones, organs, everything)
- Quail whole
- Quail eggs
- Whole quail ground (bones, organs, everything)
Other
- Whole rabbit ground (bones, organs, everything)
- Earthworms
Re: Safe foods for Sirtalis-sirtalis or Radix
I just replied to your other post.
I have a Radix who is a great eater. Bubbie eats large sized pinkys, earthworm/nightcrawlers, chicken hearts/gizzards and occasionally a little salmon.
My eastern garters (T. sirtalis sirtalis) won't eat earthworms at all but gobble everything else up and look for more although they are not super excited about the silversides. I bought some tilapia but have never used it after reading about the preservative some packers put on it. I'll just eat it myself at some point.
