  1. Re: Lucky First Time Garter Mom - sirtalis tetrataenia

Great first garter, fellow Ontarian here as well. Welcome.
  2. Re: What confirmed pairings and potential/expected pairings so far for everyone?

Goodluck, not many work with the granites or pugets so hope you find success with those. My Santa Cruz should be dropping any day now, the Melanistic is so huge but still probably 2 weeks...
  3. Re: What confirmed pairings and potential/expected pairings so far for everyone?

I've always been quite jealous that you can observe radix and red-sided on your property in such large numbers, stuck in the city for now myself so there is no wild garter to be seen in my yard.
  4. What confirmed pairings and potential/expected pairings so far for everyone?

I have confirmed locks and gravid:

Melanistic x het melanistic, the melanistic male is 30" and 175g, an absolute monster.
Extremely high red Infernalis x Normal Infernalis.
    Single stripe Santa...

    Re: Age/Species confirmation?

I think it is a Thamnophis radix(Plains garter) but it is very hard to tell from those photos, looks a bit skinny as well. A photo of the vent and tail will make it easy to determine the sex of the...

    Re: Feeding in separate cage.

Garters eat smaller more frequent meals and are not prone to regurging, I've never had one I handle during/after feeding regurge. Also you don't need to feed in a separate enclosure it really doesn't...

    Re: Hello from Lancaster, PA

I know Tom Chiang on Facebook has blacknecks, or he did. As for Pugets try Nick Katsigiannis.

    Re: Breeders

Agree with Eddie, don't go overboard getting a ton of different species, I did it and got overwhelmed and almost burned out and snakes didn't get the care they deserve, plus constantly bringing in...

    Re: Scaleless eastern garter morphs

That really is the reality of it, there's just too many species, subspecies and morphs for garters and the babies aren't super hardy and often adults don't breed without cooling and demand for them...

Re: Just for fun: which species next?

Similis and Infernalis can both be pretty wild, Infernalis in particular are often crazy although adult females can tame down quite a lot. My adult females are all very tame now but it took them 2...

    Re: Whats cooking?

Mostly melanistics, santa cruz and infernalis in the fridge for me. Nothing unique besides my WC eastern albino and normal female from the same site.

  14. Re: I have been working on a 125 gallon vivarium for garters

That's absolutely amazing, I have simplistic bioactive vivs for all my garters, nothing crazy like that. Awesome job!

    Re: Thiaminase in chum salmon?

I don't think any salmon has thiaminase but not 100% sure unfortunately, you can feed even fish with thiaminase as long as it's not the majority of the diet. easy to supplement with liquid or pill...

Re: How Long Can A Baby Go

At this time of year a lot of snakes will stop eating due to sensing the change in season, you can try to counter this by increasing their temps and daylight hours or brumate them, one or the other...
  18. Re: Getting my enclosure ready, some general questions regarding supplies and husband

Look for fishing shops in your area, almost all of them have nightcrawlers/dew/lob worms used for fishing.
  19. Re: Getting my enclosure ready, some general questions regarding supplies and husband

Red wigglers can be toxic, idk if red earthworms is another name for those. Nightcrawlers/dew worms/lob worms are best option. You can keep them together no problem just keep an eye on them when...
  20. Re: ok now my ribbon snakes won't even eat.

I have a few snakes that have already stopped eating on their own, usually they come out of it without doing anything but a short brumation usually does the trick if they refuse to eat for a long...

    Re: Tale injury

Just keep it on paper towel with an egg carton or paper towel roll tube as a hide and a water dish. Sterile environment until the wound heals would be your best bet.

Re: My ribbon snakes are terrified of me.

There's no way to be sure without location, just the the blueish tone is more common on westerns than easterns. Easterns usually sport a rusty color especially below the lateral stripes.

Looks like Western ribbons to me, look healthy as well, hopefully they become more active for you. You can try giving them an elevated basking spot with like a 50w bulb and turn off the under tank...

Attachment isn't working for me. Anyways, the heating pad and no basking lamp is the reason the aren't coming out, their heat needs are gained from within their hide.
