Have to say though this has made me want to get my Garter even more now the shear beauty of these creatures. Also as I have never had any dealings with snakes before as I don't know a lot I was surprised how my instincts took over to give this one a helping hand.

Nice looking snake. The injuries don't look life-threatening. He'll probably make it thanks to you. I saw a post some months ago, the same thing happened to a large garter snake. It was in the blazing hot sun and couldn't free itself from a net. It was found in time, and freed. Another snake, also caught in the same netting, was already decomposing.
