re: Other pets (pics and discussions)

The chorus frog larvae I'm keeping are doing great. Growing really fast and I only occasionally find one or two dead. The rest are thriving.

I also found some salamander (or newt?) larvae in the same place I got the frog eggs. In standing water, nothing more than a dang puddle, right in the backyard. There's even perrywinkles and aquatic snails there. If we would just get more than one sunny, dry day, the puddles would be gone. I think the captives I have are going to be the only survivors.

I'm having a problem with the salamander larvae though. Almost every day, I find a few with bubbles trapped inside them, floating upside down. Within a day or two, they're dead. Not sure what's causing it.

Took a weed whacker to some tall grass the other day. Got hit in the face by frog guts. Oops. Had to relocate about a dozen frogs that didn't get hit. One was a huge (for a chorus frog) fat female. She must have been around 3 inches long. Really big for her species.

It's only been in the 50's and still quite gray and dreary. A few sunbreaks yesterday brought out some northwestern garters, some of which were mating, but it just isn't warm or nice enough for pugets just yet. Like concinnus', it takes a bit nicer weather to bring them out. There's a pond within walking distance and I'm told there are some monster pugets there. Patiently waiting for sun and 70's.

Good luck with your hunt Richard! Hope the weather is in your favor soon. Seems like you've had bad luck with the cold and rain.

I feel so sorry for Mickey and Macho (the two ragdolls a few pages back) right now... They are probably right now going for the big 6 month old chop, making them a bit less Macho
And if thats not enough, they haven't eaten since yesterday 6 PM and are not allowed to eat untill tomorrow morning!
