Garter x Corn???

OK, so a guy called round tonight to buy a dozen mice to start his own breeding for reptile feed and we obviously got talking about snakes.
he tells me a friend of his has bred a corn to a garter??
I start telling him that I don't believe that these species are compatible and that I was pretty sure he was mistaken.
He said, he thought so too, until he saw the offspring... and that the guy used an adult male garter but a small female corn that had only just reached breeding age.

I didn't like to be rude, but was pretty sure that this was bull ****....however, I am no expert please enlighten me,
am I right -pure Bull (or he was mistaken),
or have I lived in a bubble and never heard of this?

Complete BS but designer striped corns do look like garters!

I used to quickly dismiss these crazy tails as BS to. Most of them are, but those hybrid fanatics have crossed some pretty crazy stuff; ball pythons and Burmese pythons, kings/corns, anacondas and boa constrictors. This would be the first time that I"ve heard of a oviparous and viviparous cross but I can't say I follow the hybrid scene that closely.

Never happened. Some garter species can't even breed with other garter species let alone an egg laying corn.

I remember reading about a Natrix x Thamnophis cross that ended in dead but clearly fertilized eggs.

Yes, I quizzed him later throwing in the species genetic difference, let alone the viviparous vs oviparous , he is adamant.
I wonder if the female had retained sperm.??
he said the offspring did not live the year out.

so.... I have a female corn, coming to breeding age.....has been solitary since a hatch ling....hhhmmm, in the name of science, throw a spare male in with her?
