Can anyone ID this snake for me?

A friend of mine wants to know what kind of snake this is.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

Looks to be a young water snake perhaps midland, Nerodia sipedon pleuralis or northern.

I agree that it looks like some kind of water snake. I'm on my phone now so the pic is a bit blurry though.

Texas Snakes & More ID'ed it as a banded water snake. I think we can be fairly sure it's a Nerodia. The picture was taken in Mississippi.

Several people commented on the picture saying it was a copperhead, and I was really hoping to rule that out.

Looks like a black corn/rat to me...the pattern looks like a corn pattern. It's not a copperhead. They have a viper shaped head. Looks just like the corns in the wild around here.

Based on the fact you found it in Mississippi, I went to a Mississippi snake site and I believe it appears to be a northern water snake.

Yeah...now that I think about it...the face doesn't look like a corn at all. Definitely not a viper though. Water snake makes sense.
