Hope for you that it works fine with your blairis. What phase do you have and why do you think that your male is capable?

Well the male has already tried several times, but I've never seen them hooked to each other and have not had eggs so far. Yet they are already together for 2 years

What do you mean by phase? The latin name is L. alternata blairi. I don't really have that much knowledge of Lampropeltis as I have of Thamnophis

That's really quite a long time. How old are those 2? Sorry for the word "phase". I think, that's a word which is only used by us german speaking European. I thought that there were 2 different variants of L. alterna blairi.

1) alterna "phase" -> has 9 - 17 orange-red barrings
2) blairi "phase -> has 15 - 39 small barrings. Can be black and orange-red as well.

But I'm not sure at all about that. Read that in "Königsnattern von Rainer Thissen / Helmut Hansen 1996". As you see, this book isn't that new at all. Probably it's obsolete.

I must admit that I didn't knew about the info of the phases. When I bought them, they where lampropeltis mexicana alterna, but on a forum I go regularly they said that there where name changes in Lampropeltis. They told me that mine is Lampropeltis alterenata blairi. This all was more than 3 years ago.

They are 6 (the male) and 7 (the female) now. That's why I wonder if he's capable Like I said, I saw him rubbing against her many times last year, but I never saw them attached to each other and had no egg development whatsoever... I would already be happy with infertile eggs

Now I'm confused ;-) Did they say "alternata"? I never read alternata before. I knew them as "Lampropeltis alterna" (the breed), with those two variants "blairi" and "alterna". Hmm, strange.

But now I can understand why you are not sure at all about capability of he (propably it's she? or why do you think that he's the one?).

Yes, I've heard it changed from Lampropeltis mexicana alterna (probably "phase blairi" as I understood from your explanation) into Lampropeltis alternata blairi. But I've never did great research towards it.

I think it's he. I know madame holds her tail up, but still I've not seen him attached to her. I've seen him try though, but never succeed. A well, we'll see, it's no must.

Right. I just never heard the name "alternata". Anyhow, that's no reason why it shoudln't be like that. I gonna do some reseach if I find some time for it.
