thank you, too. i don´t have a seperate snake room. This is my combination of kitchen and living room. And the tanks are built by myself...
So i can see me garters the whole day

I will make a new video next time, with all my snakes.

Is it possible, to bring you a San Francisco Garter from here to you???
Because it´s not a wild caught and you get anofficial decleration where you get the snake.

I do not believe they may be legally kept anywhere in the United States without a federal permit. I believe they are listed here as critically endangered. A few years back, many CB babies were killed because the breeding produced far more than they could afford to care for and the red tape to make them available to private collectors just could not be cut through. It's really unfortunate, I think captive lines would pretty much eliminate poaching from the wild completely, as garters are easy to breed and therefore the market value would quickly drop to the point where poaching just isn't worth the risk. But the laws are the laws.

btw - my understanding as to why they can be traded in Europe so easily w/o permits is because CITES only looks at species level but not look at subspecies. Thamnophis sirtalis is not endangered, only the SF subspecies is. But since CITES only looks at species level, there are no restrictions outside the US to their trade.

To my knowledge, that is correct. One could only assume that it would be far more complicated, if this subspecies was treated separately.

But is it not possible to introduce young of Tetrataenia from Germany to the United States?
This would avoid the law of the USA fact or?
Then none would be wild caughts which threaten the holdings by the USA.

Oh, that's really cool you made all your tanks! They look nice! At first I thought you were at a pet store but then I did see a kitchen area. I live in California so I am unable to keep some really nice garters such as the Californian red sided garters and the Santa Cruz.

I take an interest in phasmids too but once again, you need a permit for most. I no longer keep any. And finding the appropriate food plants (not treated with pesticides) for them is always a challenge when living in a big city.

Just like Thomas.., I am moving!!! ;-)
