    Thamnophis s.s.flame * melanistic

I have bred these together. Now I hope to get something like a melanistic flame. Had anybody breed them? Or is there a picture available...

what stinks about a melanistic flame is that you won't be able to tell it's a flame, because melanistics are all black and the black obscures all of their other colors. It's cool to have to the two genes together though, so you could produce flames and melanistics in the same litter. Any melanistics you get though you would have to label as "possibly flame" because you won't be able to tell if it is one or not. The only way to tell would be to breed that melanistic to a normal, and you will get either all normals het melanistic, or flames and normals het melanistic. if you get flames then you know that melanistic is also a flame. you just won't be able to see it is all!

the only problem with that is even flames have white chins... i just went in and looked at my high end male, he is a solid red snake, flaming red face and all but his chin is perfectly uniform white.... so I don't think if on a melanistic you would be able to see anything different! I would maybe ask Scott, he has produced flames het melanistic and possible some melanistics from that line. My awesome male is het anerythristic.

    I agree to Nexus,
most of the "real" Flames that I´ve seen have a red or redisch chin,
and nearly all melanistic ´sirtalis have a white chin and most of them
a litle white stripe at the boarder of side and vent or wihte spots
This is a bit blury but i hope you can imagine what´s meant:

The white on the chin will dominate the red.Part of the melanistic gene is the the white chin.Sometimes the white can go a quarter of the way down the body. The red won't show thru it.
