Re: can you help I.d the ribbon please :)

I don't really know. I've never kept ribbons. I do know that with any garters I've ever kept, the fish eaters didn't care if it is dead. However, from what people tell me, including the pet store keepers, ribbons are more visual hunters and they can be hard to convert to dead food. The local petco wanted to get the ribbons off of goldfish after I told them how bad it can be for them. They were able to get a few of them to take f/t silversides but they had to hold them in tongs and make them wiggle.

My Red striped ribbons (thamnophis proximus rubrilineatus) eat defrosted, unscented pinks like they are CANDY!!! Of course... I did produce them myself and have raised them from the time of their birth. They are extremely tame and are pretty much exactly like any other garter snake in every way.... since they are tame, non-wiggly, and eat pinkies, I can find nothing that makes them different from my other garters! I started mine on live fish as babies, swtched them to dead chopped fish, and then I started sneaking pinky bits into the chopped fish. Soon i realized that since they know that if it's on the tongs, it's food, they dont care and now they are at the point where they will sit in my hands and eat a pinky that has had no contact with any fish. In fact, on one occasion I was feeding both fish and pinks and the ribbons went for the pinks first!
