    Hi everybody, thanks for the responses. Unfortunately the snake died the afternoon I found it in the garage. (Friday). I was surprised a how long it took for my post to show up on the site. Is it possible it died from being held captive? One of the last things it did was climb out of the pail I had it in temporarily while I was makeing a safe spot for it, and then it went downhill from there.

    I doubt if captivity and anything to do with it.
    Sounds like a severe injury.

    Hope you'll say with the forum and possibly get another garter.
    They are a great snake. The best in my opinion.

    I agree. The snake was terminal the day you found it. Highly doubtful that trying to help and keeping it captivity had anything to do with the snake's demise. Apparently the injuries were just too severe in this case. You did all you could.
