Re: Dude looks like a lady...

Selena/Bieber is a lot bigger than Hermes if he's courting, right? That makes them unsuitable roomies for now. Looks like you could be looking at a 3 viv setup soon At least with an infant viv, a male viv and a female viv you can start adding more without worrying about cross-breeding. Then you can add the breeding viv, another couple of infant vivs...

Good grief! Well...I have another small viv as I just moved Hermes into Cee Cee and Bieber's old tank...so I have a 10 gal...I wouldn't put the Biebs in with Hermes yet, don't worry...plus, I don't have the heart to separate Cee Cee and Biebs. But the thing of it is...I know nothing of caring for baby snakes...and I just don't have the money and time to care for them...I would have to find them homes ASAP. My mother is going to kill me...I live with my family right now as I am a poor nursing student!!

I don't know how easy it is to find homes for sirtalis in Delaware, but you're looking at taking care of babies for around 3 months, if you aren't in a position to do that I'd find the heart to separate the two of them. It's quite possible that they haven't actually locked up yet, so you may not end up with babies yet.
We've had do similar with our Cuitzeo pair because the female isn't big enough to breed yet. Vlad is most put out to be in a temporary RUB (new home should be delivered on Monday), but at the end of the day it's for their own good. We will put the two back together next year when she's big enough to breed and we have more space.

Then it would be best to separate them. If you cant care for the outcome, don't allow it to happen.

Yes, if you cannot care for babies born, then most definately separate them. place their tanks beside one another but yes do separate. It sounds like you caught them in time. Don't let it go any further unless you are prepared to care for those babies for 3 months, and even longer if you cant find them all homes. Also, what if they need vet care etc. You have to think bout whats best for your snakes, even if it makes you and them sad for awhile. Its worth it in the end. I too have a male and female housed together, they are only babies right now, but there is going to come a day probably sooner then later where i will have to separate them, and it will break lil Indy's heart cause he is very attached to Lexi, but it would be for their own good, safety and health. It would be like putting my stallion in with my mares and then saying well but they want to be together but i cant afford to look after a foal for a yr. Something similar did happen. i thought i was safe putting my stud with my two mares last winter, well guess what, she cycled one more time after she should have stopped, and we had a very late in the season foal born. Not good, but it was my fault and now i have to do all i can to ensure that baby grows up happy. and healthy which is going to be a constant struggle in the winters we have here. Its going to be alot of extra cost i wasnt counting on but i assumed that responsibility to save my self some time last winter. lol good plan that was huh... anyhow back on topic.. listen to everyone, separate them now before she does become gravid. A lil discomfort and possibly cost now will be saving you tons of time and money later. Take it from someone who has been there lol.. You have some beautiful snakes by the way.

Oh...don't blame me...my son is a Biebs fan...lol...what can I do??? He's my kid... He named the snake. (Great pic btw...lol). Anyway...I know...I hear you guys...I'm going to fix up another 20 gal that I have and put Biebs in there. I talked to Steve on Skype for a while about the whole thing today and I will take care of the babies if there are babies until I can find homes for them. But, I will separate the two of them and when Hermes is big enough I will put Biebs in with Hermes and get a female roomie for Cee Cee and then everyone will be happy.

When I was trying to decide on a garter snake (or two) Jason had a pair of the radix. I don't feel equiped to do babies yet either, so I went for all boys! Some day down the road I can get a female or two. (Maybe next year when all the list members have babies!)

Well...if I have babies...you can have a female if you want another eastern. Yeah...well, I thought I was putting two girls together...we all thought Biebs was a girl when we originally sexed her based on pics... I am going to try to get the other tank ready tomorrow to move Biebs...I think I found locations for all the tanks in my little house...and I'm going to look into getting a shelving unit for at least two of the tanks.
