Petco uses software for their herps/inverts too. It's all kept track of on the computer that opens the cages. Employees have to log into the computer to even open the cages. Feeding schedules, arrivals/sales, etc. is all on that computer. It's certainly not a new idea. They've had this system for more than a decade that I know of. It's a specialized computer. The entire setup is computerized and has a touch screen display above the tanks. Not sure who makes the setup, but it's pretty cool. Employees log in, tell the computer which animal they're feeding/tank cleaning, which tank to unlock so they can slide it out, etc. and it all gets recorded. The computer also tells them when it's time to do maintenance and feeding.

I think I'll run over there and find out. Maybe there's a link to it (the computerize herp setup) on the web.
