Those are the garter snakes of Europe. I bet that if they were naturally occurring in America, they would be in the genus Thamnophis.

Natrix actually lay eggs Greg. That's the main thing separating them from North American Natricines.

They really do look dramatically different from the other forms of this species! Almost thought I was looking at something else.
