Re: Gail's garter - the snake kind silly.

Maybe I'll just pick up a snake treadmill (satin sheet) and dangle a pinkie in front of them while they cruise around on it.

Jewels left me this today. A perfect 38" shed. Going to send this to a friend who told me that in Japan if you keep a piece of snake skin in your wallet it will bring you good luck financially. I don't believe in luck, but I think it's kinda cool associating a snake part with goodness of any kind.

Jewels 8-31-13.jpgThis is HER grapevine and not gonna share. I think I woke her up and startled her in the process. She hissed at me, never heard any of mine do that before.

Superstition and Money: The Way We Think About Money

    The Symbolism of Money

Many superstitions focus on symbols of wealth. In Japan, snakes are a symbol of wealth, which has lead, in turn, to a belief that if you place a piece of snake skin in your wallet, you will become rich. Killing snakes is considered extremely bad luck, however, which means you’ll have to get your snake skin some other way. There are superstitions like this in almost every culture, associating money with different animals or other symbols.

Oh, I have. Very large females often produce an audible hiss although not as loud as say, a gopher snake.

It's most certainly uncool because whether it be luck, fertility, anti-aging, whatever, it usually involves killing the snake. When they say "snake's skin" I'm sure they mean skin that has been cut off the snake scales and all.

Funny you should mention big, perfect skin. I'm not usually impressed with shed skins (they just go in the trash) but a few days ago I ended up with a perfect one from one of my biggest girls. It hadn't even dried yet so I laid it out flat with the stripe perfectly down the middle until it dried. Then I got a perfect one from a 2 month old neonate to go with it. The small one is about the length of just the tail part of the big one. Wow.

Speaking of hissing... Do you guys have any larger female garters that make noise when they breathe? I've had a big corn do it... and now this new hefty checkered does it... I'm hoping its not obesity!

(To clarify -- its not a wheesing, just loud puffs of air through her nose.)

Probably just the glottis opening and closing. sometimes it makes a clicking noise but you might just be hearing air flowing through the nostrils? But if I piss off/scare my bigger girls they do something with their mouth where it opens just a crack on the side and they intentionally expel air quickly through that and produces a hiss.
