    Re: Neighbors think your nuts?

LOL! Love it, love it, love it Lori!!!

Sorry to hear about Dezi They don't live long enough as it is, then when something takes them even earlier.. well, it's just not fair Our first dane died suddenly at 20 months due to a brain aneurysm. We had only had him for 8 months, but he was so very special. He was constantly glued to my side. I drove a white Explorer at the time and if I left for any reason he would whine until hubby took him outside so he could look in all the windows of all the white cars within eyesight of our house. Then he would lay by the front door with his chin resting on the windowsill waiting for me. The drool from his chin softened a chin sized depression on that windowsill that I just can not bring myself to fix. Yeah... he's been gone since 2000... sigh...

Now Louie... HE knows he's gorgeous! He's the most confident dog I've ever worked with, which makes him amazing in so many ways, but not mushy, lovey, glued to my hip, needy like Cobi. It's a loving, respectful bond, but he's much more independent.

Exactly, Don, if he were as stocky as a lab, especially while he was still growing, it would be horrible for his joints and I'd have Dane people on my case to take weight off him. lol Thankfully we don't have a barking ordinance here and it's totally up to them to prove it's my dogs barking and even then the worst thing that could possibly happen is going to a mediator. It's just the fact that I know it's not my dogs. I've done everything I can think of to ensure that mine don't bark and come on, they're Danes, they really don't bark much. Our yard borders 4 other yards and all have dogs. I finally left a note on my door saying that if you're here to leave a note about the dogs barking, take a step back, listen, and tell me if it sounds like a Dane or if it is one of the neighbor's dogs. I also left my cell phone number for them to call me so that I could verify and help solve the problem. Funny no one ever took me up on it.

Ok, James is going to kill me with all this dog talk when he gets back!
    Sorry James

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

For neighbors who are by nature "nosey", the less I reveal the better. I think any snake conversation with them would just add fuel to the fire. So I avoid it. I know nothing good will come of it, so why hand them the gun AND the bullets.

Although I like snakes and feel they have gotten a bad wrap, some people just don't want anything to do with them and feel all snakes are hostile and harmful. It's bad information I know, but I have to be sensitive to it. Coming across as anything arrogant or condecending isn't going to help the cause. So it's not a bad idea to get a feel for your audience before you reveal too much.

Case in point. I own several firearms. I don't advertise that. Not because someone might think I'm dangerous, but because the wrong ears might hear it. I don't want to increase the odds of my house being broken into, so some things I keep close to my chest.

At least that's how I feel. I enjoy my privacy as well, and if I had a neighbor that kept up with calling AC, I'd document it, and at some point have a conversation with a legal beagle about harrasment laws. That's about all you can do.

That's all I have ever wanted, but read on as to why that can never be..

Our situation is unique, in 1973 grandpa sold 3 acres to a dear sweet old lady, a slice of our yard! she stayed 2 years and sold it to this couple who are there now.

They are constantly pointing video and digital cameras at me, they forced me into a land survey, only to find out I own their driveway Of course I promptly blocked it off. (I paid $500 to learn that I own the driveway, so darn it I am gonna take what I pay taxes on.)

They have sent D.E.C. to my door twice, code enforcement 3 times and the department of health a couple times too.

All I have ever wanted is to be left alone, yet this big throbbing sore is like a cancer tumor. I cannot recieve the privacy I desire at all.

I had my cockapoo out in the yard when he was a pup, they were watching their sons rotweiler, the rot got loose and started after my Ace.

Wayne loves animals, especially mine, so I had to defend my pup, I had no weapon of any kind, so I let him (the rot) have my size 13 boot full friggin force, then I screamed over that I would kill it if I ever saw it on my property again. (real good for diplomatic relations)

Yeah I antagonize them, but I honestly feel they ask for it......

    Re: Neighbors think your nuts?

As you well know, dogs are to under the owners control at all times. So if it crossed onto your property, all bets are off. But again, if they are sending agencies over that end up going home empy handed....eventually I'd call it harrasement.

Yes there are bad neighbors, but from your end, I'd limit the contact. Let them be the agressor and fight back with the laws.

Wow, some of you have really had it rough with neighbours!
I've been lucky..........the ones who do know I have snakes just smile and shake their heads at me, and the neighbourhood boys think I'm really cool.

Same here. My neighbors have seen me carrying gun cases to and from my car, I'm pretty sure they know. I also don't want my house broken into, even if I store my firearms in a safe, like the law requires. That's by the way something I do advertise, if I'm talking to people who already know that I have firearms. Even if you get inside the house, you're not getting them out of the safe.

I have safes as well. However, I've watched video of professionals compromising expensive, high end safes in less than 5 minutes. Either way though, I like to keep things on the down low.

    Re: Neighbors think your nuts?

Only one of my neighbors knows the whole story about my animals( I remind him often to keep his mouth shut to the neighbors). One more knows I have some "critters" but no real details. I try to keep it that way.
My collection is legal, but dont want the drama.

And, Lori, you are a goofball ( I mean that in a good way).

    Re: Neighbors think your nuts?

    boy, you guys
I've heard some nasty neighbour stories and some of the ones here fit right in
I'm fortunate with my neighbours - they just want to bring their kids over
it helps that I can tell them that anything remotely dangerous (like a rosy boa?) is already illegal in NYC
also - I live two short blocks from a store where they get alligators stuffed in pillow cases and the like ("I just got an inspection notice, I guess I gotta surrender Alfie")
so I'm really tame by comparison
I don't mind them calling me the crazy snake lady - I think is has a nice ring to it

    sorry Loren
    I've already got a guy
and for a back-up I had considered David Attenborough, but he's pretty old, so I could put you ahead on the list . . .
