    Re: Introducing Gizmo!

Tami, given his history of being shuffled around so much, he may take longer to settle in... he's probably being extra demanding right now as he's over excited to be back in a home. But bassets are barkers... goes with the breed... lol. It's great that he can go into his crate and fall asleep-- that'll help with his nervousness. The ones I used to take in barked a LOT the first few days and then it tapered off as they became more comfortable.

I wouldn't make any decisions on his temperment or behavior for a little bit... let him work thru his excitement and yeah, that includes vocalizing every single thing he feels. LOL I bet he starts settling more and more each day for you.

    Re: Introducing Gizmo!

Thanks Lori I know we're in a huge adjustment period, so not too worried about anything right now. And whatever his issues are he's here to stay, so we'll get through it.

Oh, and that nap lasted maybe 20 minutes Oh-well, at least he'll be tired tonight Even though the door was open, it's a wire dane sized crate with a little bit bigger step to get in than he must be used to, cause when he did wake up he woofed & woofed thinking he couldn't get out... lol... even though the threshold is pretty much even with the bed. Of course I went and helped him out. Silly boy

He's my first bone burier/hider, too He goes and moves his bone every 10 minutes or so to another, surely more secure?, hiding spot. It's been burried outside 3 times, under the couch cusion once, under the corner of the dog bed once, on a stack of CD's below our entertainment center once, you get the idea... toooooo funny

    Re: Introducing Gizmo!

Nikki, Giz has been following a basset beagle mix around the dog park the last few days. Too cute! You'll have to share pictures of your dog! Ditto for you Andrea! Maycee sounds like a sweetheart!

Gizmo traveled with me for 5 days over this past weekend and did great with my friend's two danes...a 4 year old intact male and a 2 year old girl. All got along well and got to cruise the motor home loose together I did WAY more walking than the dane folks, but Giz was really pretty good and I bet I'm the only one who saw Tucson's historic district on foot.... yipeee.... lol

OH, and Loren, definitely thought of you as Giz and I were walking through some of the washes Also realize I'm going to need to get this guy rattlesnake aversion training. I can't find anything offered here until late June, tho

Here's a pic of Gizmo sucking up to hubby

Oh, Gizmo is a cutie! Hounds have a way of sucking up to their owners (or anyone they think will give them attention or food)! Our beagle, Tracker, will melt you with his eyes.

The kids were playing with Tracker and put him in the laundry basket.
