    Re: russian tortoise?

I have had them since about september of 2007. They are pretty neat. They do seem to have a little personality. They dont get real big, which I think is good.
I dont do a whole lot with them, they just kinda live, and seem pretty content. I feed them just enough to keep them healthy, mostly romain and collared greens, and a few other things off the list on that website. They are a m/fm pair, and I have seen them mate, but no eggs yet.
I do let them shut down for several weeks in the winter, but dont give them a full-on brumation. They seem happier if I let them sleep for a while in the winter.
They live a really long time, so they are a commitment, but I also think they are pretty low maintanence. I got them for free- someone in my church needed to rehome them, and said they would rather give them to me than sell them to a stranger.
I keep them on the sand/bedabeast mixture like on the website. it works fine.

They are sweet little things. Sometimes I think it would be neat to built them a little walkway around the house so they could walk through the living room and stuff...haha

    Re: russian tortoise?

Oh, now that is a GREAT pic!! And yes, of course you should let them wander the house. My neighbor has an ooooolllllldddddd turtle that wanders loose in his house. He calls him a woods turtle-- I've never researched to see if that's an acurate name. But he has his own bedroom that he gets shut into when Steve's at work, then gets to roam around when he's home. :-)
