Re: A survey for my research class

Question 1: What demographic is the survey targeting?
Question 2: Is there a possibility that people with a positive attitude towards snakes will have a more positive attitude towards the use of snake venom?

Done. But I assume you're asking a wider group than just us, because Stefan's point about bias is spot on.

Also, are you aware of this research? It's a recent article on the BBC website:
BBC News - Black mamba venom is 'better painkiller' than morphine

I answered. It would greatly depend on the side effects, how it is metabolized, and other treatment options, as I have a number of other medical issues.

Re: A survey for my research class

Thanks everyone. To answer the questions posted by Stefan...this is just an undergrad research paper. It will not be published at this point. It would have to have serious tweaking to ever be published...that would be something I would have to consider down the road. The survey question is being given to a wider sample...but it is basically just something to put out as a feeler to get an idea of how people react to the idea. I will probably use it as a figure in my paper...and clearly state the sample limitations and the purpose of the survey question. For my primary research for the paper, I will probably being conducting an interview with someone who knows about venom and it's use in medicine...not a survey. I may put together a larger survey asking more questions about how people feel about venom used as medicine...but it would only be to add a small piece to my paper. The actual thesis of the paper is to prove through my research that there are studies being conducted that demonstrate that many venoms are showing promise as treatment for various cancers. Hope that answers your questions. And Chris, thank you...yes...someone already gave me a link to the article. It is an amazing article and I am using it in my paper since morphine is often used as a pain medication for cancer patients.

Oops...guess I didn't answer Stefan's second question. I hope that this paper will inform people of the amazing discoveries that the medical community is making in terms of venom and the possible treatment of cancers. My research has already convinced me that venom may be an untapped gold mine in cancer research. They have found that many components of several different venoms have demonstrated in the laboratory the ability to stop cancer growth, or kill cancer cells without the side effects of traditional treatments. When my paper is finished, I will be glad to post copy for the forum to read.
