Re: How do you heat your enclosures.

A heatmat will get to a higher temperature if the air temp is higher, so producing one that only heats to a specific temperature without a stat us pretty tricky. Using physics alone has to deal with the variables that a thermostat controls.

Re: How do you heat your enclosures.

I use a variety of heat-sources for various applications.

My old home-build uses a 100watt heatcable to provide belly heat in 4 sizeable wooden enclosures. This is controlled by a single pulse-thermostat. The bottom unit is double height and I use an additional 40watt red-bulb, guarded and statted with a dimmer stat to control air temps.

My newer enclosures are heated by 56watt ceilling mounted heat-plates that are each individually statted with a pulse thermostat.

I use a variety of heat mats to heat temporary quarantine glass fishtank/plastic tub style housing and each is statted with a mat stat.

I use LED lighting in all of the large enclosures (3watt spot bulbs) but these make very little contribution to the heat within the tanks (certainly alot less than the energy saving bulbs I used to run on a thermostat - switching off when the cold end of the enclosures exceed 23C in the summer).
Keeping - 'Florida blue' sirtalis, concinnus, infernalis, parietalis, radix, marcianus and ocellatus.

I have a snake room that I heat and humidify.

Do you provide a single temperature across the whole enclosure? Or do you also provide hotspots?

No extra humidity or hot spots are provided. All snakes are healthy, eat and shed with no issues. I put the snakes that like cooler temps near the floor and snakes that like warmer temp near the ceiling.
