    I agree, it's a male. Definitely not a Checkered, looks like an Eastern to me.

    Its hard for me to get a good pic of him. Especially since I am taking these with the camera on my cell phone. But here is one that is a little clearer. Does your snake look like this?

    That's an Eastern (T. s sirtalis). This one I am sure of.
