    Stephanie,

Don't you think it's weird that we could get so attached to a snake? That's why I am so careful when i go out to mow, I H8 worrying about finding one that I can't save. Thankfully, this year I haven't seen any dead ones in my yard (but Frodo killed one of the baby bunnies that were born in my front yard), but like I said yesterday, I haven't seen Beelzebel at all this year and I'm kinda afraid that means she's gone.

Last year we had to put our 14-year-old schnauzer to sleep and that was hard, but I don't think it's any easier when something happens to one of our snakes so my thoughts are with you.

I mow during the hottest part of the day, when the snakes are hiding in the shade. It helps reduce accidents.

We had to put down my moms 14 year old schnauzer almost 2 years ago, only months after mom passed away.

This summer I was mowing the lawn, and all of a sudden a little garter bolted in front of the mower. Got the mower jerked back in time and had a house guest for a couple of days while I finished mowing and trimming. He was only 10 inches long or so and really skinny with a huge bulge in his belly.

Was the bulge something he had eaten? Did you let him go after the 2 days? Part of me wants to bring in the snakes I find in the yard but I'm not sure how well my husband would take that -- early this summer he found one in the bathroom late one night. He called me to come get it! He isn't really afraid of snakes he just has a healthy respect for them -- the snakes in Vietnam were pretty awful and he's never really recovered from that experience.

It is always sad when a pet passes on. Do you have an idea what the cause was?

Yes it's sad... I cried, is that silly to do? I have no idea.... I handled all 4 of my snakes to make sure everyone was doing good. Everything seemed just fine. I use that green carpet, then paper towel, & put carefresh on top. I put fresh water in the dish.
