Re: Two questions I've been wondering about

Wow James, that aspect never got brought up at all.

Someone has his thinking cap on

I can imagine that a snake would find anything lodged under it's skin to be annoying, possibly even to the point of rubbing the spot against things to try and get rid of the new "parasite"

Venomoid Inc. Uses tattooing on the roof of the mouth to prove de-venomation, According to their web site.

But then again, if your Viper or Cobra was found, I honestly think it would be a "Shoot first, ask later" situation anyways.

How about this. A small micro-GPS tracking chip. Snake gets lost, get out your hand-held and track them down. I've had this idea for awhile but too many ideas to work on all of them.

Sadly, they don't make GPS transmitters that small yet. But they did make a cockroach practically remote controlled with a brain implant. In a decade or three, you're going to be able to get the snake to return home, climb into the cage and close the door behind it.

I have been under the impression people have already been microchipping some of the more expensive and/or dangerous snakes for a while already. Not so much for "lost" animals, but for theft proof, and liabilty reasons. I expect it to be part of permitting processes, if it isnt already.

I think it would be great to microchip the garters for studying too. Then we could really track where they hibernate, how far they travel, and the whereabouts/survival rate of relocated snakes. I'd love to be able to "follow" a few wild garters as they go about their business all season.

    ROFL Rhea!

My hubby has a t shirt:

    "I love cats!
I just can't eat one all by myself"

LOL... and of course he doesn't mean it, we have lots of cats. :-) But it's a funny shirt.
