    so awesome

my grandmother has a sulcatta, she has had him since he was a hatchling and he's getting bigger and bigger as years go by!

My family did have one also, his name is Scooter, we gave him to a family friend who specializes in just LARGE reptiles and he is the star of the family there. Scooter grew to over 12 inches in shell length in a year's time... he was one of the fastest growing sulcattas EVER!!! By the time we gave him at 2 years of age... he was a monster for his age! My grandmother's tortoise is growing at the average rate... but ours... SHEESH he grew FAST!!

Thumbs up Re: The Sulcata's We Got In...

Those are nice looking sulcatas. I am not sure how the original owner knows for sure the sex of them though.Because they are way to young to tell for sure what sex they are,
I have 6 Sulcatas and I am only sure about what sex 3 of them are. Those 3 are around 10 years of age and around 40 to 60 lbs each. The other 3 range from 2 to 5 years of age and weigh between 4 to 10 lbs.
They love outside in the sunshine and can stand low temps in the mid to upper 50's. Give them plenty of grasses and even Tortoise chow.
Just keep a eye out when they start to get biggier because if they both turn out to be male then they will fight so to speak. One will flip the other up side down. Which can cause injuries and even death.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any question about the care of them.

I love them! They are gorgeous (I forgot to add that I have a Red-foot tort)

I wanted on of those, but they get so big that they are able to knock down fences, and doors!

Not to mention that if they get sick once they are huge, it's a chore to get them to a Vet unless one can find a Vet that makes house calls.

    Natalie,

Congrats on the new additions!!! I really like the tortoises!!! Glad you can give them a home, and I'm sure they'll get more attention than they would have with a Mommy with a new job and new baby in the home.

Good luck with them, and enjoy!

Very nice additions to the family! Has anyone seen the commercials for high speed internet with the tortoises? (I think it's for Comcast) I can't look at one now and NOT think of that commercial! Stupid marketing people!!!!
