I've always heard that checkers grow extremely fast and get big in short order. I imagine that if you keep him very warm 85-90 in the daytime 75 at night, and feed him as much pinkies as he'll eat, that he would definitely grow.

temps are easy theyv allready been done but with pinkies when is to much and how many is too much (mom dosnt want to use mice direct and the cheap live pinky store is 30-45min. away so we goto petco and buy a bag of 3 frozen for around $4-$5 )...last time i fed him a worm it took him about two months till i got him back on pinkys...so what would be a good regiment he is about a little over a foot long...real behind in growth .....didnt grow much?posably at all this past year.

I would think that it's probably best that you stock up on the cheaper ones and buy enough for couple of months at a time.

I live right across the street from petco and yeah, those get expensive. However, if I travel a few miles, I can get big pinkies, fuzzies, rats and mice, for 99 cents each. I did just yesterday buy live fuzzy and frozen pinkie mice. Got 12 for $12 and some change. My sirtalis garters (and radix) love them! (The ordinoides seem to only eat night crawlers and slugs)

I can get 13 very big night crawlers for $1.99 year 'round but most of the time, I can collect them myself.

checker isnt big enough for the fuzzies and all other stores sell fuzzies as pinkies...only oneplace breeeds their own and theyre far away...he can eat frozen pinkys and the live ones from the one reptile store...no way in hell will they let me breed my own either (even if they multiply like feral hogs ...worms will be out of the question for a while till he gets a little bigger....ok till he gets BIGGER i hate having to re introduce him to pinkys and also pinkys are healthier and make them gow faster right?(we also dont have space to freez em in months quantity) and mom wont let me get mini refridgerator/freezer in my room cuz ill smuggle sodas... max prob 10 at a time till we get space but if its necassary i might be able to convince mom to use a site that sells cheap but it has to be neccesary we might have to buy more space (doubt it tho)...any logical arguments?

What about the silversides? Or the salmon/tilapia from the fish dept. of your grocery store? They would help and vary his diet a bit. How big is checkers?

Amy isn't big enough either, she's 13.78 inches. That's why I cut pieces off of a pinky while it's still frozen, then thaw them and feed her the pieces.
