    Re: Other Reptiles/Amphibians

to those of you who remember Henner - he was buried in our garden this afternoon
here's a photo from last summer

this morning I could have sworn that he was getting better, and then suddenly he was gone
after getting permission from Mikhaila, Sean cut him open, and we found three masses on his liver. I took photos, if anyone is interested, pm me. In deference to Mikhaila, Sean only cut a long slit and pulled the organs out, and it's a bit hard to see what's what.
so we're a bit sad. Henner has been with us for four years and we've spent many sunny afternoons in the park or garden together

Then, in the midst of comforting Mikhaila, I glance over to the uro cage and - freaking hell!
    it's this

so I'm happy too - this was entirely unexpected; well - not really; I've brought her to Sean's twice in the past six weeks, because she'd been so tubby, and I wanted his opinion. I sure hope I can keep those eggs just right

what a day! death, eggs, and swallowed cage carpet
    my head is spinning

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Saying good bye to friends is always a hard thing. The memories are the great part. Reliving those great times. I will start laughing out of the blue, my kids know I'm thinking about my dog Allie. She might be gone but really gone.

    Re: Other Reptiles/Amphibians

Mikhaila has been very upset about the loss and I've been feeling like his cage is a sort of hollow place right now
since I didn't have any better safe place to put my make-shift incubator for the uro eggs, I've put it in there - seems kind of fitting
I'm not ready to think about whose permanent residence it will become, but I guess they'll have to share the space with the incubator, since I don't want to move that until they hatch
    I've never had eggs before . . .
Gwennie, the mom, is doing well - just really thirsty, and probably ready for her next rehydrating; she looks almost normal now, but yesterday, after she laid the eggs, she looked just like a wrinkled bag of bones. I've been giving her electrolytes with her water, and tons of food - even a rose.
I guess keeping busy with her care and the eggs is helping me not to dwell on Henner too much and that's okay
thanks for all your kind words

    Re: Other Reptiles/Amphibians

    this is so nerve-wracking
my kingsnake Layla is having a male visitor, and I'm not sure how different he - trying to eat her would look from he - trying to mate with her
don't they bite the female's neck?
he's a tiny bit bigger than she
earlier, they disappeared into her hide with their tails entwined, and I had to pick up the hide, to make sure everything was okay
I'm going to separate them when I'm not here and lock him into a small space with some dead rodents
sorry - no photos yet; that tank needs a window cleaning
just keep your fingers crossed nobody eats anybody
I'm going to go check again now
