You know, that's something I don't usually do. They seem to shed out just fine on normal everyday substrate, (aspen shavings or fir bark) with the exception of one or two every now and then. When I know babies are due but I can't be there I just make sure there's a hide full of damp moss for them that mom can't get into so they have a moist place to get out of her way. I take it the wet towels just helps them shed?

Don't worry. I have full confidence they will just all the sudden up and start pigging out. To get them started I usually just place a dish of minced fish and night crawlers in the enclosure and give them some space. You don't really have to worry about fights at first. They don't start that until 2nd to 4th feeding.

I don't even bother trying until they're at least a week old and they often don't eat until they're 3-4 weeks old. That's pretty normal for them. That's why I didn't start shipping any last year until they were 2 mos old. Many held out until they were 4 weeks old before they started eating.

This is my first group also Mike. I have no idea. It's all new territory for me.

Witnessed the first eating from these new scrubs. Knew some were eating but had never watched it.
Today, I gave them some chicken scented night crawler chunks and I saw a couple scrubs eating.
