Re: Gail's garter - the snake kind silly.

    Sounds normal to me.
Abby, at one point last winter got grumpy about being handled- she would tolerate it, but shake her tail in annoyance.
She came around to eating again when the march rains arrived.

Exactly, mine did that too. Freaked me right out, but after I knew where they were and what to look for I was better off. I'm glad I'm not the only one that goes thru that.

Well Zena doesn't seem irritated about being handled, but she is moving slow, sleeps really hard, and is not eating. She LOVES worms, but refused them today. Any ideas how long this will last? Just haven't gone through this part yet and trying not to freak out about it.

Re: Gail's garter - the snake kind silly.

According to several people, including the rescue place I got Zena from say she was showing classic signs of going into brumation. So I figure I have nothing to worry about, her last meal was 11-29 and since then she had pooped. She continued to drink, moved about slowing seeking out the cooler places in the cage. Yesterday I came home and found her dead laying across the cork bark on the cool side. Just laid across it like she was sleeping.

Sorry to hear this gail. Zena was a fine looking snake and i know she will be missed. Im so sorry for your loss. It may have been natural causes, she may have been pretty old since she was a wild caught adult when you got her. (R.I.P Zena)

That's what TJ said, but I think he was trying to make me feel better.

Sorry you lost her. Take some comfort that she didn't show any signs of distress, and died in comfort.
I like to think old reptiles sometimes just wind down for winter... and keep on winding down. Not a bad way to go compared to predation and disease.
