I would think taking precautions on your part to avoid direct contact with the product should be sufficient. I'm guessing the store has probably pulled any recall affected product but be sure to ask them before you buy.

The funny thing is that some ppl fail to realize is that snakes are a carrier for salmonella to begin with so it shouldnt mattee. Hence the reason why they say wash your hands afterwards. Its called being a responsible owner. I have a bp, a burmese, and 2 retics and had them for like 8 years now and even with kids in the house nobody has contracted salmonella. If your "responsible" enough to have snakes then you should do your homework. I had to register just to say that. I know it comes off like im being an ***/smartass but im not trying to. Just saying you should know more about your pets when you get them

I think there are more bacteria/pathogens all around us then we realize but with commonsense precautions much can be avoided. I've worked with reptiles most of my life and the odds are I've been exposed many times over by this and many other pathogens. I also think good hygiene for the animals prevents a lot of sickness. Less stress on them keeps them healthier and reduces the amount of pathogens they have to deal with.
