I caught my Garter about a month ago and when I woke up this morning there were babies in the cage. Since this is my first snake can anyone tell me what to do and how to take care of them? Also if anyone would want then just let me know.

Hi JoeStef, congratulations with the birth.

At first put them in another vivarium, away from the adult. To prevent accidents.
Their vivarium must be very well closed, because young are master in escaping.
Try feeding them worms after a week or so.

If nobody wants them you could release them where you caught the mother.

She is a Florida Blue and 11 babies made it and 9 did not. I will try and get some picks soon. Right now I have the babies in a 10g tank with a water and food bowl and a place for them to hide on the cool side. I have a under tank heating pad on the other. Is there anything else I should add? When and what should I feed them? Any suggestions appreciated since these are my first babies.

I feed mine "small" worms and either small feeder guppies or rossie minnows. If you can't get worms small enough, you can cut larger ones into pieces.

Some of the babies still have some of their shedded skin on them, is it true that I should put a damp sponge in there for them?

Better then that, put in a small dish full of damp sphagnum moss...something they can crawl in and out of. If needed they'll seek out the moisture with out having it get the rest of the tank damp.

Has anyone tried feeding their baby garters Red Trout worms since they are smaller worms?

Some worms are toxic to garters and i believe the ones you are talking about are the ones that are captively farm bred for fishing, and are the ones you find in compost which are toxic.

Earthworms/night crawlers are fine and you can find them in all different sizes or chop them up for your babies.

Hi joe stef, I also had a female give birth recently. I've been giving my babies rosy minnows and there eating good. I asked my local pet shop how often to feed and I was told 3x/week. good luck with your babies.
