They barely move.

if they havn't ate in about 3 weeks then stary lowering the temp. even if you just put them down for a month i think when they awake from slumber they will be willing to eat. see what the other members say because i have never burmated my snakes as i only got my first in may but i guess it is worth a try?!

Josh

I'll post some pics of my set up when it comes that time (was 80f here today)
I'm going to wheel out my dual stack 4 x 2 x 2 cages onto my enclosed balcony.
The top cage will have my jeweled lacertas and the bottom cage will have 2 pairs of garters each snake in a sterlite bin

When I think of it I will make some pics when I put my snakes in brumation.

@Josh, you have nothing to loose. Put them in brumation. If they survive they probably will eat when you wake them.

do they need a big enclosure for burmation because im thinking about using my mini fridge but the enclosure cant be that big, would that be ok?

No, the boxes do not have to be big. When the snake(-s) fit in it, it is ok.
I have used boxes from about 30 x 15 x 15 cm for fullgrown ratsnakes without a problem.

oh Josh
sorry about your babies - that's so hard to watch happen

I need more info
I'm scared to put my '06 babies into brumation - they still look so small to me

Yep...me too.

Yesterday the temperature was 7ºC but today I saw my babies a little bit active and looking for some heat, they climb up the newspaper and plants and lay down, waitng for heat. So I think, I'm not going to...and keep this winter warm.

Great thread...I would love to see some pictures!
(...i'll post some when I have the brumation set up ready...end next week probably)

Only thing I'm wondering about are waterbowls...Should I place small ones in there, or not? Did it in all previous years...

Sorry, the quality isn't too good. Below is my home-made burmation box. The floor space measures 30 inches wide by 24 inches deep. I use a small water bowl in it and cover the front with cardboard to keep it dark. I locate it in my unfinished basement where the temp doesn't reach an extreme low. Remember to drop your snakes temp gradually over a couple of weeks and do the same with lighting. Keep a check on their water once a week.

Josh, hope your Easterns do OK.

This is a picture of our brumation last year. We put the adults in plastic boxes of 40cm X 50cm and young garters in smaller boxes. In the boxes we put wood thing (don't know the name ) and dried leaves. We make it very moist, well not soaking of course !! We don't put a waterbowl in.
Then we put the boxes in the space below our house (crawlspace ??)

This works perfect for our garters and we'll do it the same way anytime soon now :)

The place on your photo looks like the basement.
Crawl space is a nice despription of its extent:D
The wooden things in your boxes are looking like wood chips and cork oak bark.;)

well i have just fed kia her last meal as sissle wouldn't eat so i will leave it about 3 weeks and then start lowering the temp. i will feel so cruel not feeding them concidering kia is a greedy bugga lol
i have the tetras in an exo terra plastic box about a foot long so i thing i will put the tetras in the marcys tank and the marcys in the tetras tank.
hopefully the tetras will grow a bit more i the bigger viv now.
i really cant wait to get the burmation underway just so i know i have done everything ok lol but i might have to bring sissle out early as he is quite a bit smaller than kia now.
